I went online and did some researches. Found out that a 32GB flash drive cost about $70 USD. Then I went on eBay and did some research and found a seller who had 20 posts of the Kingston 32GB starting bid at $39.99. What a steal!!

Starting in April, a generation of Conficker computer virus started an attack on all network computers and began a chaos for antivirus companies. There are many version of Conficker however the major topic is involved with Conficker C, which is a worm released an update that could activate the botnet to deliver spam and turn infected PCs into zombies. It then uses these zombies and started to send out spam emails so it can spread to the next victim. Once your computer became a victim, you have to spend some efforts to search and destroy it since major antivirus companies are still in search for the cure.

The latest update could include a connection between the Conficker worms to the active spam bot W32.Waledac. Researchers have seen circumstantial evidence that the latest strain of Conficker, known as Downadup E, might drop a Waledac binary on machines infected with Conficker C. That binary is designed to steal information and turn infected PCs into spam-spewing drones under the control of the malware creators. This can be a major leak for system and network administrators for enterprises. Before its update April 1, Conficker C was renowned for exhibiting an array of sophisticated self-preservation techniques, which included blocking access to security vendor sites, capable to avoid numerous antivirus products, and disabling Windows automatic updates. In addition, Conficker C has the ability to patch its own vulnerability once it has infected a machine, presumably to prevent competing malware from attacking the same host.

The newest and updated Conficker prefers to travel through peer-to-peer networks to distribute its new version E. The new strain of the Conficker worm updates machines infected with Conficker C to the new strain, known as Downadup E via peer-to-peer techniques. The latest version also have the unseen self-removal functionality that is programmed with the ability to eliminate itself from infected hosts on May 3, and reaches out to a new list of high-profile domains.

For some reason when people think of LCD monitor or TV, the biggie size ones are always more attractive and sexy compare to the small couch potato in the corner on the store. Unfortunately for laptop, things are going smaller as nanotechnology developed and became more popular. The new invention of man kind, NetBook, has been an astonishing catch for many workers, students, families and children as you can see them populated around cafes, campus, and even break rooms.

The major difference between the SSD (Solid State Drive) and a regular hard drive is the price and capacity vs. faster start up,faster reading time from the memory to the user interface, and reliability as the lack of moving parts almost eliminates the risk of mechanical failure. The disadvantages for SSD is the write cycle, which seems to runs out after 1,000 to 10,000 write cycle. SSD also requires more power since it has to be power-driven unlike hard disk can be turned off during operating.

Apparently Sony VAIO Notebook came out with N series before, but the pricey gadget was way too high for anyone to own one. Now with the Z series which comes with a full size keyboard and weight only 1.5lb, 1.33 GHz with 2GB RAM and a 60GB hard drive, competitions only exist for consumers shall look else where if the budget is limited.

The new VAIO Z520 comes with 3 different colors, an 8″ monitor, and also built-in web cam brings more joy into life. Comes with Windows Vista Home edition, build-in blue tooth and 2 USB 2.0 ports available. Since the wireless N technology came out consumers have been complaining about the capability of their network card to connect with the allowed speed on the Wireless N. Well if you have a build-in Wireless B+G+N internal network card you shouldn’t complaint anymore right?

Aside from the fancy features, there are some drawbacks about Sony VAIO. One thing is the drivers and repairs. It is extremely difficult to repair or even clean the internal fan or if you try to reach the mother board. SONY only offers their standard 1 year warranty with parts and labor covered. Therefore do not spill or if you think you are a less-fortunate-technology-user, purchase the warranty from www.squaretrade.com. This extra warranty will guarantee to save you from all the troubles and asking yourself a million times how did the soda baptize your laptop.

Retail Price is $899.99 from BestBuy.com

To contrast the cost with a respectable competitiors, I will discuss about the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10″ Netbook Atom N280. It has a 10″ monitor, a bigger hard drive – 160Gbs with 9.5 hours of battery life. Build-in blue tooth, wireless N, and 1.3MP webcam. ASUS still offers Windows XP which would be a favorable OS as compare to Vista. The only down point of this gadget is that it only comes with 1 GB RAM with the expansion spot capable to upgrade to 2GB.

As compare to the SONY, ASUS is selling it for $349.99. People will question about the warranty and their technical supports however, I asked some users and they indicated that they are very delighted with the weight to be 3.2lb and still have most the functionalities as compare to a bigger laptop. ASUS has been designing mobile technologies for years.

Do not over look the warranty as ASUS offers 1 year with parts and labor covered. With this new exotic look and afforable price, consumers will continue to be the winners of the deal!

This will be a short post, regarding to what I received in mail last week:

Microsoft System Center has developed solutions to help enable dynamic IT organizations. System Center desktop solutions enable IT organizations to empower users by streamlining the connection of any authorized user to any application, regardless of their location or connectivity. System Center data center solutions provide a unified, extensible management system for the physical and virtual infrastructure in data centers to improve efficiency and availability. All System Center solutions are designed using knowledge-driven management guidance to help organizations realize the value of their investment faster than ever.

After I opened my package with a trial CD ROM, I hesitated to put it in my drive before I finished reading more details about MS products on its website. This is the most updated information from MS about dynamic desktop connected with application and data center solution with new security application ForeFront code name “Stirling”. I am giving the link of the related articles below and welcome to comment if you have already or interested to test them.

I was reading an article from Business Week Report February 2009 edition this weekend and I found an interesting subject which I value most for my business as well as an IT consultant. The editor put several cases in which top notch executives’ experiences as a guide for his article and use them to explain that even in recession time, people will go out of their way to provide excellent services even to the point that losing profits is acceptable. I found it a little bizarre.

As a regular/frequent consumer I often buy things that I can use to improve my living standards but not to break my back at the end of the month to find an extra part time or temp job to pay my bills. Often in times, I am dissatisfy with the quality of the item I purchases and usually I would sell it at a lower price on eBay or Amazon. I would go through my usual approach: set the price of the item about $2 to $5 dollar less than the purchase value and see if I get any “watchers”. Then close to the end of the auction I would monitor and if there is no bidder I would lower it to the acceptable price in order to draw one bidder. This process would save me at least the cost of spending time on the phone with the online retailer like newegg.com or buy.com and get rid of the unwanted item faster than you think. This is because I have been through a trauma with customer services with a horrible RMA department and Paypal customer services.

Accuracy would prevent me for buying these unwanted junkies and prevent me to shop at local retailers, but this is not the case for discussion today. Some customer services, like newegg.com, like to tell you that you have to contact the manufacturer automated phone system in order. What I have in mind is for retailer to provide a detail description along with the shipment to explain what you need to do if you have a change of heart or product malfunction. This should be set as the standard front line of customer services rather than waiting for consumers to call and ask them to wait because they spent their quality evening being put on hold in hope to return the product.

My second suggestion is exchange. If the customer is not satisfied with the product and it is unopened, they should have the rights to exchange it with something else within a period of time. I understand that for smaller retailers will be difficult to accommodate such ridiculous request, however for larger retailers who are still maintaining supports from a good line of creditors, shouldn’t you start to improve and challenge competitors to become the best? Like Barnes and Noble which I worked at, customer can take it back to the store after 14 days of purchase for full refund, but this would be too generous and miracles to be happening for online retailers. B&N also imply a policy for returns with receipts within 30 days of unopened items. Now this is what I want to see when I shop online.

To prevent abuses, online stores can imply a policy that only after the given items are received the consumer then will be ask to prompt their answers to a selective questions online, ask them to explain and give review of their change of minds before issuing exchanges or refunds. Talking about reviews based upon people who purchased the items, we should integrated customer services to an invisible level where internet can serve for all purposes, not only for online taking credit card numbers or Paypal accounts.

Today I want to discuss about Sony Ericsson X1 compares to HTC Touch Pro Fuze. Recently I was hoping to obtain the X1 for personal upgrade from BlackBerry Curve. Due to the wild eBay experience as most of bidders have, eBay did not allow me to use my coupon and therefore canceled my sale. I was sadden by the fact that I could not get the phone, but need not worry, as I was able to check it at a local store.

I would say that the X1 is very similar to the Sidekick design, with more functionality such as games and multi-languages. Running Window Mobile provides users with more capabilities to add different features to the phone. Memory card slot where you can add more features to your everyday usage. The X1 starts up like Google Chrome, with customized theme enables you to select the 9 items you want to use at your convenience. Using touch screen and QWERTY keypad technology allows you to text and go as fast as you can. Consider having a helper who stores all your data and ready when you needed them, this phone has internal memory of 400Mbs and supports up to 16GBs external memory card. The 3.2 Megapixel camera is a fun and exciting function while you hold your X1 horizontal so it looks like a digital camera. It also has a stylus so it is best off to use it when you have sticky fingers.

One thing I like about this phone is that you are not strictly have to select a data-plan with your voice services company. It has build-in Wifi and also supports Java applications and Video calls so you won’t be bored on the road. The only problem is to find an area where you can receive free Wifi connection. The A-GPS function is linked with Google Map and their interface is very easy to use. The only problem is you will need to get to a Wifi connection or if you’ve already have the data plan in order to use it.

X1 comes in two different colors, Black and Silver. I personally love the Silver however the retail price for one of these is beyond the par value for any average cell phones. If you check on eBay, the average price would be around $649.99 before shipping.

How I will talk about the HTC Touch Pro Fuze.

The Fuze has a slick back design which I think that HTC considered fashionability to go along with their phones. The Fuze runs Window Mobile technology which is very similar to the X1. The Fuze also has a standardize full keyboard and styles to help users to send SMS and write notes on calendar. This phone is a bit smaller but thicker than X1, which gives users easier to carry in pockets and jackets without worries to drop it on the train.

HTC develops phones base in Europe and Asia. However as long as you use a SIM card (T-Mobile or AT&T) you will be fine with the Fuze. Be aware that some of the HTC phones only work on Sprint network.

Another fact that I like the Fuze is the value. Since this phone came out before X1, the average price sells for $400.00 and sometimes you can find a great deal on local forum, like craiglist or slickdeals. It only comes in black but the design speaks for itself.

Feel free to contact me for any questions or comments which are much appreciated.

Personally, I think this is a great router. I bought one at CC about a month ago, and don’t regret it one bit. It’s not as user-friendly to set up as my old NetGear Gig-port switch, but it works a lot better and has much more advanced features.
